On December 17, 1915, three men enlisted in the 161st Huron Battalion.
654124, CLARK (Pte.) Wilfred Russell, “A” Company enlisted at Brussels. He listed Enoch Clark of Walton as his next of kin. Walton is a community in Huron County, five miles south of Brussels.
654143, CLIFFE, (Pte.) William, “D” Company enlisted at Seaforth, which was also his address prior to WWI. He was a native of England and did not list any next of kin.
654129, HOWES, (Pte.) Edward “Gordon”, “C” Company enlisted in Clinton and later when the 161st was in Camp Borden, he transferred to the battalion’s Stretcher-Bearers group. Private E.G. Howes was pictured with the 161st Overseas Stretcher Bearers standing in the back row, seventh from the left.
Prior to WWI, Gordon Howes had been working in the Province of Quebec. He listed his next of kin as Ed Howes of Ste. Therese, PQ.
