161st Huron Battalion Diary – January 26, 1916

Enlistments – January 26, 1916

Three men enlisted with the 161st Huron Battalion on January 26, 1916. One of these three men did not return home at war’s end.

654472, BATES, (Pte.) Charles Frederick, “B” Company enlisted in his hometown of Goderich, ON. His next of kin was George D. Bates, Goderich, ON. Both he and his brother, John H. Bates, enlisted with the 161st Huron Battalion’s B Detachment.

654353, LANG, (Pte.) John Daniel, “C” Company enlisted in Exeter. His next of kin was Thomas Lang of R.R. 3, Exeter.

654356 PteAlfredJamesPryce654356, PRYCE (Pte.) Alfred James Arthur, “A” Company enlisted on January 26, 1916 in Wingham. His next of kin was his wife, Mrs. Laura Pryce of Wingham. Alfred Pryce was born on November 14, 1888 in Hampshire, England. Prior to enlistment, he worked as a farmer in Wingham.

Private Alfred Pryce was featured in photo in the Huron County War Memorial, published by the Wingham Advance.
