Enlistments – February 1, 1916
On February 1, 1916, the following four men enlisted. One of these four men did not return home at war’s end.
654377, GILLESPIE, (Sgt.) James, “C” Company enlisted at Clinton. His next of kin was Neil Gillespie of Cromarty, ON. James Gillespie has former military experience with the C.O.T.C.
While overseas, James Gillespie was photographed with the 161st Sergeants’ Mess standing in the 2nd back row, 4th from the left.
654379, JONES, (Pte.) Francis William, “C” Company enlisted in Clinton. His next of kin was Ms. Gertrude M. Jones of Clinton, ON. His country of birth was England.
654389, KERR, (Pte.) Angus Duncan, “A” Company, enlisted in Brussels. His next of kin was Alex. B. Kerr of Brussels, ON. Private Angus Kerr had previous military experience with the 33rd Huron Regiment. He was photographed with Wroxeter’s Own in the front row, 9th from the left.
654386, WHITE, (Pte.) Daniel Albert, bandsman, enlisted in Goderich. His next of kin was Mrs. J. Williams of Salisbury Wilts, England. Pte. Daniel White had previous military experience with the Imperials (British troops).
While in training with the 161st in London, ON and at Camp Borden, Private D.A. White was a member of the Battalion’s brass band. He was photographed with the 161st Military Band as a cornetist seat in front, 9th from the left. He was also pictured with Goderich’s Own squatted in the front at the extreme right.
