Enlistments – February 10, 1916

On February 10, 1916, the following four men enlisted for service in the 161st Huron Battalion. One of these four men did not return home at the war’s end.

 

654424, GUEST, (Pte.) Frederick Leslie, “A” Company enlisted in Wingham. His next of kin was 654424 PteFredLeslieGuest.jpgMrs. Annie Guest of Wingham. Pte. Frederick Guest had prior military experience with the 33rd Hurons. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Guest of Wingham.

 

 

 

654427, CARTER, (Pte.) Joseph William, “A” Company enlisted in Wroxeter. His next of kin was Georgina E. Carter of Wroxeter. His country of birth was England.

654444, COWAN, (Pte.) Walter, Blyth’s Own enlisted in Blyth. His next of kin was David Cowan of Blyth. Pte. Walter Cowan was photographed with Blyth’s Own in the back row, at the extreme left.

654430, FRY, (Pte.) Thomas William, “B” Company enlisted in Goderich. His next of kin was Ms. Margaret Fry of Goderich. His country of birth was listed as England. He emigrated from Kent County, England in 1911. Private Tom Fry was photographed with Goderich’s Own, squatted in the front row, 13th from the left.
