Huron 161st enrolment up by 1

Enlistments – May 2, 1916

On May 2, 1916, one man enlisted in the 161st Huron Battalion. He came home after the war.

654759, CHOWEN, (Pte.) Wilfred Roy, “C” Company, enlisted in Clinton on May 2, 1916. His next of kin was James Chowen of Clinton, ON. His step-sister, Mrs. Frank Fingland of Clinton, had a photograph of Private Wilfred Chowen in uniform, taken in front of their Clinton home that was included in the Sandy MacDonald draft manuscript.

Private Wilfred R. Chowen survived WWI. In 1935 Wilfred Chowen was living at 1590 Bathurst St. in Toronto. W.R. Choyen died around 1974 and was buried in the Maitland Cemetery in Goderich.
