Battalion Diary – March 12, 1917

Location: Witley Camp, North Surrey

Captain C.G. Vanstone being On Command, Captain Town took over the duties of Acting Adjutant.

Captain D.G. Ross and Captain A.P. Malone transferred to the 4th Reserve Battalion, Bramshott.

Lieut. J.K Mair and Lieut. R.A. Cluff returned from Officers’ Course, Crowborough.

Battalion Diary – February 19, 1917

Location: Witley Camp, North Surrey

8:00am  Brigade duty Battalion. Every man was used on these duties.

Transport Section commenced 30-day course of instruction in Transport Work.

One (1) Officer and 8 other ranks went On Command, Crowborough to attend Trench Warfare School.

Seventy-three (73) other ranks returned from Ash Ranges and placed under Quarantine as Mumps contacts.

Three (3) men transferred to 17th Reserve Battalion.

Strength increased by 23 other ranks (Category A3) from the 25th Reserve Battalion, Bramshott.

Note: Category A3 soldiers are those “casualties fit as soon as they were hardened by exercise.” This would include those recovering from wounds received on the battlefield, those affected by disease and medical conditions.1
